Every day more than 40,000 people cross the River Thames using this majestic bridge.
The bascules of the bridge are raised almost 1000 times a year.
The speed and weight of the vehicles are strictly controlled: the speed restriction is 20 mph and there’s a camera system that measures speed using a number plate recognition system.
The beautiful London Tower Bridge also has a sophisticated system that controls the weight of the vehicles. There’s an 18 ton weight limit on vehicles crossing the bridge.
