The beautiful St Paul’s Cathedral in London, England has a north-west tower with thirteen bells and a south-west tower with four – including the bell called Great Paul and the hour bell called Great Tom.
St Paul’s Cathedral also has an American Memorial Chapel that contains the names of more than 28,000 Americans who gave their lives while stationed in the United Kingdom during the Second World War. It was designed by Godfrey Allen and Stephen Dykes Bower and it was paid by donations from British people. The elegant London Cathedral is also home of statues, tombs and memorials of famous British figures like Sir Winston Churchill, the Duke of Wellington, Henry Moore, T.E. Lawrence, Florence Nightingale, Sir Joshua Reynolds among many others. The memorials commemorate many British service men that died in action during different wars, including the most recent Gulf War. St Paul’s Cathedral has also been the site for the funerals of some very famous people, like Winston Churchill.
