London's legendary red phone boxes
London's legendary red phone boxes

The red telephone box is a true icon of the city of London, United Kingdom. It was designed to protect the people form the rain and it was painted in red to make it very easy to spot. This charming telephone kiosk was designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott (1880 – 1960, English architect known for mixing Gothic and Modernist styles). The model he designed in 1930 was called K3 (Kiosk No.3).

The first standard public telephone kiosk was introduced by the United Kingdom Post Office in 1920. It was made of concrete and it was very different from the famous red telephone box that we can now see in London and in many other sites around world. You can see red telephone boxes near and far:  in Malta, Gibraltar, Oklahoma, Oxford and even Argentina (in exclusive neighbourhoods such as Recoleta or Belgrano).
