The Houses of Parliament in London, United Kingdom is also known as Palace of Westminster or Westminster Palace. This elegant building located on the north bank of the River Thames in the London area of the City of Westminster is the place where the House of the Lords and the House of Commons meet.

In 1834 the Palace of Westminster was almost entirely destroyed by fire so most of the present building dates from the 19th century. The House of Commons section was also rebuilt in the 1940s since it was destroyed by bombs during the Second World War. The oldest part of the House of Parliament is called Westminster Hall and dates from 1097. This beautiful Palace used to be a royal residence but no monarch has lived there since 16th century.

The Houses of Parliament is a beautiful Gothic-style building and one of the most famous spots in London. Its Big Ben clock tower is one of the Palace’s most visited attractions and it is considered a true icon of the charming city of London.
